Kangaroo Island - Remarkable Rocks

The most unique island holiday destination in Australia is without doubt, Kangaroo Island which lies off the south coast of South Australia. Kangaroo Island is Australias third largest island and is holiday destination where you can experience some of the countries most beautiful scenery as well as coming in contact with its unique wildlife species. The coastline is quite beautiful and is wild and windswept and there are fantastic rock formations to experience, underground caves to explore, fishing and surfing as well as exploring the local agricultural and produce industries. The island is famous for the quality of the foods that it produces. The fresh local seafoods are served in the local restaurants and are some of the best you will ever taste. King George Whiting, freshwater crayfish or Marron and local oysters and mussels are a specialty. Locally produced wines, cheeses and honey are among the leaders in their field.

Kangaroo Island - Cape du Couedic

The island is like a zoo without fences. The beaches are home to seals and penguins and large colonies can be found at Kingscote, Penneshaw, Seal Bay and Cape du Couedic which is part of the Flinders Chase National Park. In other parts of the island you can see Kangaroo, Koala, Possums, Echidna and other members of Australias unique wildlife population. About one third of the island is either National Park or part of a conservation zone. Surfing at Stokes Bay and Pennington Bay is popular and many surfers come from Adelaide to ride the waves here.

Kangaroo Island has 480 kilometers of coastline. On its northern side it is protected from the swells of the southern ocean and a ferry service operates to the island from Cape Jervis on the Fleurieu Peninsula. The surrounding waters are prolific and both commercial and recreational fishing is popular. There are a number of resorts on the island and other different styles of accommodation to choose from. Organized tours of the islands most popular beauty spots are also available and you can arrange to be picked up from your local accommodation. Access to the island is either by boat from the mainland or by air from Adelaide and there are regular services available.
